No more old school Polaroid look-alike icon for Instagram. Today Instagram launched a new app icon and app interface. Why does the new icon look that way? Today’s launch blog post tells us:
Inspired by the previous app icon, the new one represents a simpler camera and the rainbow lives on in gradient form.
For those of you who saw a preview of the black-and-white interface experiment, or who got to check it out using the IGExperiments Jailbreak tweak (while it worked), today is the day to get the new interface. I do like the simpler and cleaner look of the app interface. It puts the focus on the content, and it’s easier on the eyes. I know everyone’s eyes must be exhausted from all the digital content that we consume every day. Take a look at the new interface below.

They also updated the icons for the rest of their apps! Below is a sample showing the 2016 icons for Instagram, Layout, Boomerang, and Hyperlapse. They all work awesomely well together. Nicely done.
And oh yeah, here’s the old icon.
